Keeping something secret and giving no information about it.
المعنى الاصطلاحي :
Lowering one's voice in prayer, rather than using a high tone, while reciting the Qur’an for instance.
الشرح المختصر :
"Ikhfā’" (low tone in prayer) means to lowers one's voice in prayer while reciting the Qur'an, making "takbīr" (saying "Allahu Akbar" [Allah is the Greatest]), etc. in such a way that only he and one or two men next to him can hear his voice.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
"Ikhfā’": concealing, covering. Opposite: "izh'hār" (showing and declaring). Other meanings: confidentiality, hiding, veiling.
