‘Imrān ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) led them in prayer and forgot (something), so he offered two prostrations and then made Tashahhud and Taslīm.

شرح الحديث :

This noble Hadīth indicates, based on the Prophet’s action, that whoever acts forgetfully in prayer should offer two extra prostrations and then make Tashahhud and Taslīm, ending the prayer. The forgetfulness for which prostration should be offered after Taslīm is in the following two cases: 1. One makes Taslīm while he has omitted something from the prayer. 2. One is doubtful about something, so he builds upon what he deems more probable. The inclusion of Tashahhud in this Hadīth is odd because according to the more correct opinion, Tashahhud should not be made after the prostration of forgetfulness.
