Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive my sins, my ignorance, my excess in my affairs, and whatever You are better aware of than myself. O Allah, forgive my sins which I committed seriously or humorously, mistakenly or deliberately, and all of them I have committed. O Allah, forgive my sins of the past and the future, those which I committed secretly or openly, and those which You are better aware of than myself. You alone can make one progress or lag behind, and You alone have the absolute power over everything."

شرح الحديث :

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to make supplication with these great words that include a request for forgiveness from Allah for every sin and fault regardless of its kind. This request is made with humility and submissiveness before Allah, the Exalted. It is recommended for a Muslim to supplicate Allah using this supplication, in order to follow the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him).
