‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: One of my forearms was broken, so I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) (what to do with it during ablution) and he told me to wipe over the bandages.

شرح الحديث :

This Hadīth shows us the ease of Islam concerning the ruling related to bandages during ablution, when a person is unable to wash a bandaged limb. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered ‘Ali to wipe over the bandage. It is (in this state) the same as washing. Although this Hadīth is weak, yet its meaning is correct, and there are reports from the Companions in this regard. It is Ok to cite this Hadīth as supporting evidence.
