المعنى الاصطلاحي :

Negating everything that counters Allah's perfection, including all types of faults and defects; as well as necessarily affirming the perfect attributes the opposite of which are negated from Him. Also affirming that none of His creatures shares with Him any of His divine characteristics.

الشرح المختصر :

"Nafiy" (negation) is negating everything that counters Allah's attributes of perfection, and everything that is deemed to associate any of Allah's unique attributes with any of His creation. As such, it is to be negated that Allah has a father, a child, a partner, a spouse, a peer, etc; and to negate that He forgets, drowses, or sleeps. It is to be further negated that Allah has an associate in lordship, for Allah exclusively has absolute perfection in the kingship, power, and providence. There is no absolute negation in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Indeed, absolute negation contains no praise. However, each instance of negation is meant to affirm the opposite perfection. So negating partners and peers is meant to confirm that Allah is totally great and majestic and singled out with attributes of perfection. Likewise, negating inability is meant to affirm Allah's perfect power; negating ignorance is meant to affirm Allah's comprehensive knowledge of everything; negating injustice is meant to affirm Allah's total justice; negating drowsiness, sleep, and death is meant to affirm Allah's perfect eternal life and sustaining of everything in existence as the Giver of all Life, and so on. Absolute negation contains no praise, and moreover is extremely rude and offensive to use in relation to Allah. For example (to elucidate), if somebody were to say to a king that you are not a garbage collector, a blood letter, nor a weaver of cloth, the king would discipline that person’s insolence and disrespect, even though what he is saying is true.
