Anyone who has been captured by the enemy, whether in the battle or not.
الشرح المختصر
"Aseer" (captive) refers to anyone who was captured by the enemy regardless of whether he is Muslim or non-Muslim, young or old, male or female, and whether he was captured during fighting or without fighting, such as a non-Muslim taken captive when entering the lands of the Muslims without a previous guarantee of protection.
