It is the state of the heart when it becomes awake from its heedlessness, and gets ready for meeting its Lord by being determined to perform acts of obedience and overcome all impediments and obstacles.
Awakening is the first key of goodness. The one who neither prepares oneself to meet his Lord, nor seeks the necessary provisions for his afterlife is like the sleeping person, or even worse. One's determination depends on the degree of his alertness and awakening, and the stronger one's determination is, the greater the state of his readiness will be. When one's faith gets stronger and its light gains more control over the heart, the heart becomes more awake and more aware of the truth and the path of guidance. This kind of awakening has three pillars: 1.Taking notice of the manifest and hidden blessings of Allah and realizing their greatness, abundance and variety. 2. Acknowledging one's previous mistakes and shortcomings, repenting, seeking Allah's forgiveness, and being diligent in performing good deeds. 3. Being aware of how short and fast life is. One should take advantage of one's time to make up for what s/he missed and to do whatever would bring one closer to Allah, Exalted and Glorified be He. Some advantages of the awakening: 1-Filling the believer's heart with love for Allah and His Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. 2-Showing the believer the path of guidance and facilitating means of goodness, success, and happiness for him. 3-Assisting one to have no extensive hopes about this worldly life and to have no aspirations for what others possess. 4-Getting ready for the Hereafter and resisting one's personal inclinations towards worldly desires. 5-Contemplating in the blessings of Allah and His bounties, holding one's self accountable, and scrutinizing one's own acts.
