Imitating the disbelievers (التَّشَبُّهُ بِالكُفَّارِ)

العقيدة

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

Imitating the disbelievers in their sayings, actions, beliefs, and everything peculiar to them.

الشرح المختصر :

“Tashabbuh bil-kuffār” (imitating the disbelievers) is to do something unique to them, be it related to their words, actions, or beliefs, in such a way that the imitator would be regarded as belonging to them. “Tashabbuh bil-kuffār” contradicts the principle of maintaining allegiance to the Muslims and dissociation from the disbelievers. Copying outward matters necessitates copying inward matters and creates agreement and harmony, regardless of time and place. Any increase in imitation entails an increase in interaction in terms of morals and attributes. “Tashabbuh bil-kuffār” is divided into two sections: 1. “Tashabbuh bil-kuffār” in their specific religious affairs, such as celebrating Christmas. 2. “Tashabbuh bil-kuffār” in worldly affairs, which is permissible under certain conditions: a) It should not be in a special tradition or distinctive feature of the disbelievers. b) It should not be in part of their religion. c) It should not be in something mentioned in our religion. If Islam permits or prohibits it, then Islamic instructions should be followed. d) It should be proportionate to the need without exceeding it.
