المعنى الاصطلاحي

An article that denotes wishing. It indicates that the occurrence of the second clause is conditional upon the occurrence of the first clause.

الشرح المختصر

"Laww" (if), is used in many different ways: 1. To object to divine legislation, and this is prohibited. 2. To object to divine predestination, and this is prohibited as well. 3. To express regret and remorse, and this is prohibited, because anything that brings about regret is forbidden, since regret incurs sadness and anguish. 4. To claim that sinning is a result of divine predestination, and this is false. 5. To express wishing, in which case the ruling depends on the thing that is wished for: if it is good then wishing it is good, and if it is evil then wishing it is evil. 6. To merely make a statement, and this is permissible.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Laww": if; a part of speech used to express wishing. It indicates conditionality; i.e. the nonoccurrence of something due to the nonoccurrence of another, or the occurrence of something due to the occurrence of another. For example, "If Zayd goes out, I will go out." It is used for other meanings and purposes, such as proposal, request, encouragement, and justification.
