deviation (البِدْعَة)

التعريف :
Whatever is introduced into the religion and is contrary to what has been known from the prophet (peace be upon him) and has no basis in Islam. It is of two types: a heretical deviation that makes its perpetrator an unbeliever and one leading to transgression.
المعنى الاصطلاحي :
All beliefs and acts of worship that are innovated in religion and that contradict the Qur'an, the Sunnah, or the consensus of the righteous predecessors.
الشرح المختصر :
''Bid`ah'' is any innovated belief or practice in religion that contradicts what the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and his Companions adopted. OR it is an invented religious way that looks like yet contradicts the original Shariah-approved way, and leads to exaggeration in worshipping Allah the Almighty. Categories of "bid`ah": 1. "Bid`ah" in beliefs: believing in what contradicts the truth that Allah, His Messenger, and His Book advocate. 2. "Bid`ah" in acts of worship: worshipping Allah by innovated deeds that He does not permit or accept.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
''Bid`ah'': invention, innovation. It is derived from "bada`a" which means originating something after no previous model.
