المعنى الاصطلاحي

Shedding tears because of fear, grief, and the like.

الشرح المختصر

"Bukā’" (weeping) is an emotional expression that appears on people associated with a change in facial features because a person is severely influenced by fear, grief, or other natural causes. It is an instinctive action which man can mostly not repel. It is of two types: 1. Praiseworthy "bukā’": When one cries upon listening to the Qur’an or for a noble, humane reason, such as losing a loved one or a relative. 2. Blameworthy "bukā’": This is feigned crying that is usually made to unrightly support a statement or claim. Hence, crying is not a valid indication that a person is truthful in his words or actions. Another classification of "bukā’" as per the reason behind it: 1. That of grief. 2. That of happiness. 3. That of mercy. 4. That of longing. There are some signs to distinguish between these types. For example, tears resulting from happiness or joy are cool, while tears resulting from grief are hot.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

التعريف

The shedding of tears from one’s eye, in time of joy or sorrow. It is said that in cases where lamenting is clear, it is pronounced bukāʾ, while in cases where sorrow is stronger, it is bukā without the glottal stop; or this second pronunciation denotes only a tearful eye while with the glottal stop if tears are coupled with sound.
