delay (التَّأْخِيرُ)

الفقه أصول الفقه

التعريف :

To delay what is required beyond its due time, whether specified by religion or tradition. It is more general than postponement, because postponement sets a new time, while delay may or may not specify a future time.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

To delay something beyond its Shariah-assigned time or location.

الشرح المختصر :

"Ta’kheer" (delay) is of two categories: 1. "Ta’kheer" pertaining to time: which is to do something after its Shariah-assigned time, such as performing prayer after its initial time or its end time. 2. "Ta’kheer" pertaining to place: which is to do something after its designated place, such as entering into the state of "ihrām" (ritual state of consecration) for ‘Umrah or Hajj after passing the "meeqāt" (its designated boundary).

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :

"Ta’kheer": to delay, postpone. Opposite: "taqdeem" (to advance, do something before its due time). Other meanings: to place something behind something else; to be late, either in time or place; to miss or lose something; to grant respite; to be slow.
