المعنى الاصطلاحي

Saying a word (which has more than one meaning) whose obvious meaning is understood by the listener while you, in fact, intend another meaning of the word.

الشرح المختصر

“Tawriyah” (ambiguity) is to say a word that has an obvious meaning while you intend another, hidden sense that is also indicated by the same word. “Tawriyah” is one of the things that are approved by the Shariah when the need arises or in order to obtain a Shariah-approved benefit or to avoid a difficulty or harm that a person may encounter.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

“Tawriyah”: ambiguity. Opposite: “sarāhah” (directness),“izhhār” (obviousness). Original meanings: concealment, hiding. Other meanings: delay, extraction. “Warā”: rear.

التعريف

That a person says something that allows two meanings: one very obvious and the other not so. A listener will think that the obvious is the intended meaning, but the speaker actually refers to the less obvious meaning.
