The "jadd" (grandfather) is the father's father or the mother's father and those above him in the line of descent. There is also a "jadd" from breastfeeding; he becomes a "jadd" because the father was breastfed by his wife. There are two types of "jadd": 1. "Jadd saheeh" (true grandfather), where the line of descent between him and the father does not include a female (mother), such as the father's father and great-grandfather, etc. 2. "Jadd fāsid" (false grandfather), where the line of descent between him and the deceased includes a female, such as the father of the father's mother and those above him in the line of descent.
