المعنى الاصطلاحي

Something becoming existent after being non-existent.

الشرح المختصر

"Hādith" (occurrence) is something that has become existent after being non-existent, like saying, for example, that the speech of Allah is originated as an occurrence. This means that some of the divine speech was originated, spoken by Allah, the Almighty, and then revealed at a time in which Allah did not speak it, such as the Qur’an. "Hādith" is of two categories: 1. "Hādith" that came to existence after being non-existent and that is related to Allah's essence, power, and will. Examples: pleasure that occurs after being non-existent, and the speech of Allah that occurs at different occasions. The same applies to the rest of attributes that pertain to Allah's actions, such as anger, laughter, and the like. The fact that they are "hādiths" does not mean that Allah came to have such attributes after not having them. Rather, it means that Allah is characterized by such attributes at times and not all the time. This explains their saying that speech, pleasure, anger and the like are eternally pre-existent in essence but originated as "hādiths". 2. "Hādith" that came to existence after being non-existent and that is separate from Allah's essence, such as a man and the like.
