الشرح المختصر :

"Hifzh-ul-lisaan" (guarding the tongue): The tongue is one of the great blessings of Allah which a person is required to thank Him for. Part of thanking Allah for this blessing is to guard it and maintain it. There are two ways to guard the tongue: 1. Guarding it in speaking, by using it in saying what is beneficial, whether to oneself or to others, and refraining from saying what is harmful to oneself or to others like lying, backbiting, tale bearing, false testimony, etc. 2. Guarding the tongue in eating, by using it to eat what is lawful and refraining from consuming food which is doubtful or unlawful. It is known that the tongue is the means to chew food and send it to the stomach.
