المعنى الاصطلاحي

Seeking refuge by reciting the Qur’anic verses and supplications to preserve one's health or cure illness.

الشرح المختصر

"Ruqyah" (faith healing) is one of the great and beneficial means of treatment in the Prophetic medicine. It consists of supplications and "dhikr" (remembrance of Allah) recited over the sick person, seeking healing from Allah. A relevant term is "ta‘weedh", which means shielding, protecting, and guarding. "Ruqyah" contains words; such as reciting verses from the Noble Qur’an and supplications reported in the Sunnah. It also contains action of the heart; whereby the faith healer and the sick should rely solely on Allah that it is effective only by the will and power of Allah. Ruqyah also contains actions; such as blowing without saliva coming out of the mouth, passing hand over the body of the sick, placing hand over the place that causes pain, pouring water on the sick, and drinking of the water by the sick, etc.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر
