التعريف :
The ninth month of the Hijri year. Muslims have the duty of fasting throughout its days and are recommended to spend time at night in worship.
المعنى الاصطلاحي :
The ninth month of the Hijri year. It comes after Sha‘baan and before Shawwaal.
الشرح المختصر :
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri calendar; it comes after the month of Sha‘baan. It is the month of fasting, extended night prayer, and intense recitation of the Qur‘an. The Quran was sent down all at once on the Night of Decree to the "al-Lawh al-Mahfoudh" (the Preserved Tablet) in the nearest heaven.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
"Ramadan": one of the months of the lunar (hijri) year; it comes after the month of "Shab‘aan". It is derived from "ramad", which means the scorching heat of the sun.
