العقيدة الفقه

التعريف :

To feel apprehensive that something bad is going to happen.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

Considering something that is either seen, heard, or known as a bad omen and abandoning an action because of it.

الشرح المختصر :

"Tiyarah" (belief in bad omens) is the superstitious belief that something seen, heard, or known is a bad omen and that it has an effect in causing benefit or harm. An example of something seen is finding a bad omen in owls or in a crippled or a blind person. An example of something heard is hearing someone saying: "O loser!" so he quits the sale as a result. An example of something known is to regard certain days or months to be a bad omen, such as the twenty-first day of the month, or the last Wednesday of the month. In the pre-Islamic times, the Arabs would seek out a bird's nest when he wished to do something major and would frighten the bird and then see in which direction it flew. If it went to the right, then he would continue with what he intended. They called this bird "saanih". If it flew left, he would have bad premonitions about his intention and refrain from doing it. They called this bird "baarih". Islam condemned this practice and banned it. "Tiyarah" is of two types: 1. Major "shirk" (polytheism): when a person believes that what he regards as a bad omen actually affects his affairs directly. This is major "shirk" because he is associating others with Allah with regards to his Lordship and management of the affairs of the universe. 2. Minor "shirk": this is although he believes that Allah controls everything, he feels a superstitious effect when he sees the omen and does not do what he had intended before seeing it.
