What a person is praised or condemned for, whether it is related to his own self, his family, or his lineage.
"‘Ird" (honor) is everything that a person may be praised or condemned for. It may relate directly to him, such as being accused of fornication; or to his family, such as his wife or daughter being accused of immoral acts; or to his lineage, by questioning it or insulting his forefathers. In principle, every person is expected to protect his "‘ird" against disparagement and abuse.
"‘Ird": the honor of a person and his family background, and it may refer to "the self". It was also said that it means everything that a person is praised or condemned for.
