The opinion that is supported by strong evidence or that is advocated by many according to the Imams of the schools of jurisprudence.
"Mash'hoor" (prominent opinion) varies in its meaning according to the terminology of each school of jurisprudence when giving preponderance to a certain opinion in the same school. Definition of "mash'hoor": 1. In the Māliki school: The opinion that is supported by strong evidence, or that is advocated and transmitted by more than three. 2. In the Shāfi‘i school: The opinion attributed to the Imam when the opposing opinion sound weak. 3. In the Hanbali school: The opinion that is well-known for its being attributed to the Imam or to one of his companions, whether it gained such fame for being advocated by many, transmitted by many, or supported by strong evidence.
"Mash'hoor": widespread, publicized. Opposite: "majhool" (unknown). Original meaning of "ish'hār": announcing, declaring.
The term refers to difference of views within a school of fiqh, and points out the preferred view.
