فضائل بر الوالدين
Abu Usayd As-Sā‘idi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), a man from Banu Salamah came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, is there anything good that I can do to my parents after their death?" He replied: "Yes. To pray for them, to ask Allah to forgive them, to fulfill their promises, to maintain the kinship relations that are only maintained by them, and to honor their friends."
عن أبي أسيد الساعدي -رضي الله عنه- قال: بَينَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَة، فَقَال: يا رسول الله، هَل بَقِيَ مِنْ بِرِّ أَبَوَيَّ شَيءٌ أَبُرُّهُمَا بِهِ بَعدَ مَوتِهِما؟ فقال: «نَعَم، الصَّلاَةُ عَلَيهِما، والاسْتِغْفَارُ لَهُما، وإِنْفَاذُ عَهدِهِمَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمَا، وَصِلَةُ الرَّحِم الَّتِي لاَ تُوصَلُ إِلاَّ بِهِمَا، وإِكرَامُ صَدِيقِهِما».
شرح الحديث :
This Hadīth indicates that honoring one's parents requires honoring their friends and loved ones. This attitude should continue even after the parents pass away. The question of the man from Banu Salamah suggests that he was good to his parents while they were alive and that he was ready to maintain his goodness to them after their death. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) told him what to do: Firstly: pray for them. Secondly: ask Allah's forgiveness for them: ''O Allah, forgive me and my parents!'' Thirdly: fulfill their will and testament. Fourthly: give charity on their behalf to earn Allah's reward for them. Also: be kind and generous to their friends. Fifthly: maintain good relations with their relatives. These acts demonstrate one's goodness to their parents after their death.
