‘Uqbah ibn ‘Āmir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were entrusted with the task of tending the camels. When I returned from my shift in the evening, I found the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) standing and addressing the people. I heard him saying: "If any Muslim performs ablution well then stands and prays two Rak‘ahs while focused on them with his heart and his face, Paradise is guaranteed for him." I said: "What a fine thing is this!" Thereupon, I heard someone in front of me saying: "What he said before it was even finer." I looked and it was ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb who then said: "I see that you have just come." He said: "If anyone of you performs ablution thoroughly then says: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the slave of Allah and His Messenger,' the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter from whichever of them he wishes."
This Hadīth relates the recommended Dhikr to be said after performing ablution. ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Āmir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Companions used to take turns in grazing the camels. A group of them would gather their camels and entrust one of them to take the herd to the pasture for the day. This was convenient for them as the rest could tend to their affairs. Once when ‘Uqbah finished his shift, he returned the camels in the evening then went to the assembly of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He found him addressing the people and he heard him saying that whoever performs ablution well then prays two Rak‘ahs in which he is focused with his heart and face, Paradise is guaranteed for him. By using these two terms 'heart and face', the Prophet gathered all the kinds of submissiveness and humbleness, because submissiveness is the action of the body parts while humbleness is the action of the heart. Upon hearing the statement of the Prophet, ‘Uqbah said: "What a fine thing this is!" By 'this', he meant this statement or this benefit or this piece of glad tidings or this act of worship. It is 'fine' because it is easy and everyone can do it without hardship, and because its reward is great. Hence, it is recommended that the person who performs ablution says immediately after performing it: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger." He should also say the Dhikr mentioned in the narration of At-Tirmidhi in connection to this Hadīth: "O Allah, make me one of those who oft repent and make me one of those who purify themselves." It is also recommended that he says the Dhikr mentioned in the narration of An-Nasā'i in his book ‘Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah: "Exalted are You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but You, alone without partners. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You."
