Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If Allah, the Almighty, loved the slave, He would call Jibrīl saying: 'Allah, the Almighty, loves so-and-so, O Jibrīl, love him.' So Jibrīl would love him and then would make an announcement in the heavens: 'Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him too.' So all the dwellers of the heavens would love him, and then he would be granted the acceptance of people on earth." A narration of by Imām Muslim reads that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If Allah, the Almighty, loved the slave, He would call Jibrīl saying: 'I loves so-and-so, O Jibrīl, love him.' So Jibrīl would love him and then would make an announcement in the heavens: 'Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him too.' So all the dwellers of the heavens would love him, and then he would be granted the acceptance of people on earth. On the other hand, if He hated a slave, He would call Jibrīl and say: 'I hate so- and-so, so hate him.' Then Jibrīl would also hate him. He (Jibrīl) would then announce among the inhabitants of heavens: 'Verily, Allah hates so- and-so, so you should hate him too.' Thus, they would also start to hate him. Then he would be inflicted with the hatred of people on earth."
This Hadīth explains what happens when Allah, Glorified and Exalted, loves a slave. If Allah, the Almighty, loved a person, He would call out to Jibrīl, who is the noblest of angels, just as Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) is the noblest among the human beings. Allah would call Jibrīl saying: "I love so-and-so, O Jibrīl, love him." So Jibrīl would love him and then would make an announcement in the heavens: "Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him too." So all the dwellers of the heavens would love him, and then he would be granted the acceptance of people on earth. Then the inhabitants of earth would love him. On the other hand, if Allah hated someone, He would call out to Jibrīl saying: "I hate so- and-so, so hate him." Then Jibrīl would also hate him. He (Jibrīl) would then announce among the inhabitants of heavens: "Verily, Allah hates so- and-so, so you should hate him too." Thus they would also start to hate him. Then he would be inflicted with the hatred of people on earth. It is a sign that Allah, the Almighty, loves the slave when s/he is accepted and loved by people.
