Wā'il ibn Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to put his knees on the ground before his hands while prostrating, and raise his hands from the ground before his knees while getting up.
Wa'il ibn Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) informs that he saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while prostrating, he would first put his knees on the ground then his hands. Also, while standing up to perform the second, third or fourth Rak‘ah, he would raise his hands from the ground before his knees. This explains the other narration, which says: "When he got up, he would get up on his knees taking the support of his thighs," not placing his hands on the ground. The majority of scholars have framed their opinion based on this Hadīth and said the Sunnah is that the praying Muslim should put his knees on the ground before his hands when going down for prostration. Although the Hadīth is weak, it is corroborated by the act of ‘Umar and other Companions.
