Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no infection and no evil omen, and I like a good omen." They asked: "What is a good omen?" He said: "A good word."
Since good and evil are predestined by Allah, the Almighty, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) denied in this Hadīth the influence of infection per se and the influence of bad omen and expressed approval of good omen, for optimism constitutes trust in Allah and an incentive for people to make effort and pursue their goals, unlike pessimism. Here are some prominent differences between optimism and pessimism: 1. Optimism is related to pleasant matters, whereas pessimism concerns unpleasant ones. 2. Optimism constitutes trust in Allah, and we are required to trust our Lord. Pessimism, on the other hand, indicates distrust in Allah, something we are forbidden from.
