Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hasten to good deeds before being overtaken by (one of) seven (afflictions). Are you waiting for poverty that will make you forgetful? Or wealth that will make you oppressive? Or a debilitating illness? Or old age that will make you senile? Or sudden death? Or the Anti-Christ –the worst expected evil? Or the Hour; and the Hour is much more grievous and much more bitter (than all worldly afflictions)?

شرح الحديث :

Hurry up and perform good deeds before being overtaken by any of the seven afflictions that are likely to happen to anyone. These seven afflictions are: Poverty that makes one forget many benefits because of being preoccupied with seeking sustenance, wealth that distracts one from fulfilling worship, sickness that spoils one's mind or body thus preventing him from performing acts of worship, old age that makes one say things that are incorrect, sudden death, the Anti-Christ whom Allah will send at the end of time and he will indeed be the worst expected evil because of the severe trials that will accompany his emergence and from which none will be saved except the one whom Allah protects, or the Hour; and the Hour will be much more calamitous and much bitterer than all kinds of worldly torment and terrors. This Hadīth is weak as mentioned above; however, the command to hasten to good deeds in general is confirmed in other texts, like the verses where Allah, the Almighty, says: ﴿Race toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth﴾ [Sūrat al-Hadīd: 21] ﴿And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth.﴾ [Sūrat Āl-‘Imrān: 133]
