Abu Mūsa ‘Abdullāh ibn Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) dissociates himself from the woman who wails, the woman who shaves her head out of grief, and the woman who tears up her clothes out of grief.
To Allah belongs all what He takes and all what He gives, and therein lies the perfect wisdom and reasonable course of action. Whoever opposes and objects to this is as if he opposes the judgment and decree of Allah, which is the essence of benefit and wisdom, and the foundation of justice and righteousness. Hence, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that whoever is displeased with the decree of Allah is not following his praiseworthy way and Sunnah. Rather, he has swerved from the right path toward the path of those who show impatience and dismay when a calamity befalls them, because of their strong attachment to this worldly life. So, they do not seek the reward and pleasure of their Lord by being patient during their calamity. That is why the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) disassociates himself from those whose faith is too weak, and who cannot bear the shock of the calamity until they reach the point of feeling discontent in their hearts, and show it in their statements through wailing, improper lamentation, and supplicating against themselves, or through their actions by tearing their clothes, slapping their faces, thereby reviving the customs of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance. Indeed, the close allies of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) are only those who, when afflicted with a calamity, show submission to the decree of Allah, the Exalted, and say: ﴿Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return. They are those on whom are the blessings from their Lord and His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided-ones.﴾ [Sūrat al-Baqarah: 156-157]
