Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said to him: "Teach me a few words to say frequently." He said: "Say: 'There is no god except Allah alone, Who has no partner. Allah is the Most Great, and Glorified with all glorification. All praise is due to Him. Allah, the Lord of the worlds, is exalted above imperfection. There is no might and power save with Allah, the Mighty and the All-Wise.'" The Bedouin said: "Those words are for my Lord. But what is for me?" Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should say: 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me, guide me, and give me provision.'"

شرح الحديث :

A Bedouin went to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him to teach him words, meaning: words wherewith to mention Allah at any time. Therefore, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to say: there is no true god except Allah, Who has no partners. Here, the Prophet started with the testimony of monotheism, which means: there is none worthy of true worship except Allah. Then the man was asked to say that Allah is greater (than everything), and that He is glorified with all glorification. Allah is exalted, being the Lord of the worlds, meaning: all the creation. "There is no might and power save with Allah, the Mighty and the All-Wise" means that nothing is changed from a state to another except by Allah's power and strength, being the Most Glorious and Wise. The Bedouin, having learned these invocations, commented that such prayers were for His Lord, to mention and glorify Him, so he asked for something for himself. Therefore, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) advised him to ask Allah to forgive him by erasing his sins, to send mercy on him by guiding him to acts of worship in his movements and stillness, to guide him to the best conditions, and to provide him with lawful sustenance, health, and all good things.
