Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade performance of prayer in seven places: the garbage heap, the slaughtering area, the graveyard, the commonly used road, the bathroom, the area where camels rest, and above the House of Allah.
The earth is entirely considered a mosque where a Muslim should pray whenever the time for prayer is due. This is the basic ruling; however, the Hadīth excludes seven places from this ruling. They are as follows: 1. The place where garbage, dung, and household waste are thrown. 2. The places where animals are slaughtered 3. The places where the dead are buried, including the area falling within the graveyard walls. It is not permissible to pray anywhere in the graveyard, even if there is no grave in the place one wants to pray in. 4. The public road that people commonly and frequently use. 5. The places where people bathe with hot water and steam for the purpose of treatment. This is the bathroom that people were using in the past, not today's bathrooms. Bathrooms are places where one answers the call of nature and makes ablution. These privies and toilets are with greater reason forbidden to pray in. 6. The places where camels settles at water streams and rests in general. 7. Above the Ka’bah for both obligatory and voluntary prayers. This Hadīth is weak, and a Muslim may not act upon it. However, the prohibition of praying in the graveyard has been reported in other Hadīths. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let the cause of Allah be upon the Jews and Christians for they have taken the graves of their prophets as places of worship."
