التعريف :


A trait that motivates one to fulfil other people’s rights, steer away from dishonesty, so as to honour one’s commitments.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :


Fulfilling commitments, honoring promises, and meeting their requirements with sincerity and integrity.

الشرح المختصر :


"Wafā"" to commitments is one of the moral virtues of the true believers. It stands on an equal footing with veracity and justice . Its opposite, betrayal, which stands on an equal footing with falsehood and injustice. That is because "wafā"" means being true in both words and actions. Allah the Almighty has made the fulfillment of commitments part of faith, and has made it the basis of people’s dealings. "Wafā"" is of two types: 1. "Wafā"" to the Creator: by fulfilling His commands and abstaining from His prohibitions, and by being submissive, obedient, and humble to Him. 2. "Wafā"" to the creatures: which includes honoring all oaths and promises that one makes with others and having resolve to keep them and fulfill their requirements, like the husband"s loyalty to his wife, the child"s loyalty to his parents, and so on. The fruits of "wafā"" include: 1. "Wafā"" to commitments is a characteristic of the pious, who are mentioned in the Qur"an, and is among the greatest means of achieving piety. 2. It is a means of attaining peace and security in the world, maintaining people"s lives, and protecting their rights. 3. A means of expiating the sins and entering Paradise. 4. A means of attaining well-being and stability of societies.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :


"Wafā"": being true to one"s word. Opposite: "ghadr" (betrayal). Original meaning: completion, perfection. Other meanings: noble morals, abundance, addition, fulfillment, attainment, termination.
