The tenth day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah. It is the day of Eid al-Adha.
"Yawm-un-Nahr" (the Day of Sacrifice) is called thus because it is the day when sacrificial animals are slaughtered. It was called Eid because it returns and is repeated every year, or because it brings happiness and joy, or because people feel optimistic about its return. (The month of) Dhul-Hijjah, which includes the "Yawm-un-Nahr", is the twelfth month of the lunar year. It was given that name because it includes the days of Hajj. "Adha" refers to the sacrificial animals "dahāya" (sing. adhāh), which were called thus because they are slaughtered in the "dahwah" (early morning), which is the beginning of the time when animals are slaughtered. It is well known that slaughtering animals on "Yawm-un-Nahr" is one of the dearest deeds done by non-pilgrims to Allah, the Almighty. The scholars have unanimously agreed that it is not permissible to slaughter the sacrificial animals before the break of dawn on "Yawm-un-Nahr".
The day of Eid al-Aḍḥā, which is the tenth day of Dhul-Ḥijjah.
