Desirability (اسْتِحْبابٌ)

المعنى الاصطلاحي :


Request of the Lawgiver (Allah) to do something in a way that is not binding.

الشرح المختصر :


"Istihbāb" (desirability) means that the Lawgiver, i.e. Allah, the Almighty, requests a legally competent person to do something in a way that is not binding. If the person carries out this act as a sort of worship and obedience to Allah, they will be rewarded; if the person does not do it, they will not deserve punishment.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :


"Istihbāb": it is derived from "istahabba", which means loving and desiring something. Opposite: "bughd" (hate).
