Seeking the reward of Allah in one"s words, deeds, and beliefs, and finding sufficiency in Allah in times of prosperity and hardship.
"Ihtisāb" means seeking reward and favor from Allah the Almighty, and it includes: 1. Seeking reward from Allah the Almighty by being patient in the face of calamities like the loss of one"s children. 2. Intending the pleasure of Allah the Almighty and seeking His reward when performing acts of obedience. 3. Finding sufficiency in Allah the Almighty, placing one"s trust in Him, and relying upon Him when one faces trials and tribulations. From the benefits of "ihtisāb": 1. It is a path that leads to Allah"s love and pleasure. 2. It is a proof of one"s perfect faith and excellent abidance by Islam. 3. Winning Paradise and salvation from Hellfire while attaining happiness in this life and the Afterlife. 4. "Ihtisāb" in acts of obedience makes them sincerely devoted to Allah the Almighty, and will thus be rewarded with nothing but Paradise. 5. "Ihtisāb" in times of calamities wards off sadness and grief and brings content. 6. "Ihtisāb" is a proof of contentment with Allah"s decree and fate, and a proof of having good expectations of Allah.
"Ihtisāb": taking something into consideration and deeming it significant. "Hisbah": reward. "Hasb": sufficiency. It is derived from "hisāb", which means counting and calculating. Other meanings: finding sufficiency in something, planning, denouncing, estimating, assuming.
