المعنى الاصطلاحي
Everything that is hung around the neck, whether it is a paper, bead, pendant, or the like, to bring some type of benefit or ward off some type of harm.
الشرح المختصر
"Tamaa'im" (amulets): anything that is hung on a person or otherwise out of fear of the evil eye or of any other dreaded harm, whether the thing hung contains verses from the Qur'an, or from Allah's names and attributes, or names of the devils and the jinn, or the letters and talismans that are used by the soothsayers and magicians and the ignorant people similar to them. An amulet could be something that is put on the door of the house, or in the car, or in any place. In brief, amulets are used seeking the fulfillment of something good or the fulfillment of keeping away harm, and that is neither allowed in religion nor decreed by Allah.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر
"Tamaa'im" (sing. tameemah): a string or beads that the Arabs used to hang on their children, claiming that they protect them from the evil eye, as if intending that they are the perfect remedy and the desired cure.

Pearls of a certain type that one hangs on oneself to prevent the effect of an evil eye, or envy. In one of its general uses it means a necklace.
