Singling Allah out in His beautiful Names and sublime Attributes that are mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah, and believing in their meanings and rulings.
"Tawheed-ul-Asmaa was-Sifaat" (unity of Names and Attributes) is one of the parts of monotheism in Islam. It is the belief in the fact that Allah, the Almighty, alone possesses absolute perfection in all aspects, in addition to the belief in His beautiful "Asmaa wa Sifaat" (Names and Attributes), while freeing Allah from all deficiencies and imperfections and negating everything that Allah has negated from Himself, or that His Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, negated from Him. The belief of Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jamaa`ah regarding the names and attributes is based upon two pillars: 1. Affirmation, which is affirming everything that Allah affirmed for Himself and everything that His Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, affirmed for Him from the "Asmaa wa Sifaat", and this includes two things: A. Absolute faith and belief in the beautiful "Asmaa" (Names) of Allah, which includes: a. Belief in the authenticity of that name of Allah, the Most High. b. Belief in the meaning indicated by the name (the attribute). c. Belief in the effects and ruling related to the name. B. Absolute faith and belief in the sublime attributes of Allah, which includes: a. Affirming that attribute so one does not negate or deny it. b. Adhering to the specific name that Allah gave Himself without changing that name like those who call Allah’s face, hands, and feet (organs and body parts). c. Refraining from likening Allah’s attribute to that of the creature. 2. Negation, which is to negate everything that Allah negated from Himself and everything that His Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, negated from Him of every form of deficiency and shortcoming, such as sleep, inability, ignorance, etc. while affirming the complete and perfect opposite out of exaltation for Allah, the Almighty. For example negation of sleep from Allah necessitates the affirmation of complete and perfect life and His being the Guardian of life.
The belief in how God describes himself and how His Messenger (peace be upon him) describes him, without any negation, distortion, or attribution of shape or form.
