"Hilm": (Forbearance) is one of the noblest manners and greatest traits that represents one's perfect soul. Forbearance is of two categories: 1. Human forbearance: which is controlling oneself and one's behavior in fury as a result of calamities and experiencing undesirable event. Such forbearance is either innate and natural, or acquired and learned, or a combination of the two. 2. Divine Forbearance: which is one of Allah's Attributes affirmed in the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and built on Wisdom, Knowledge and Patience. "Al-Haleem" is one of Allah's Names signifying that He gives respite to His obedient slaves so that they can do more acts of obedience and gain more reward. Also, He gives respite to the sinners and disobedient slaves not only by delaying punishment so that they repent, but also by showering them with His favors out of His mercy and kindness, even though they commit sins. Forbearance of Allah the Almighty does not mean incompetence or He in need of the creation; rather, it reflects that He pardons and forgives the creation and gives them respite out of His Bounty and Wisdom. Otherwise, Allah is able to overtake them all and in no need of any of them, because Allah is Omnipotent and Self-Sufficient, and nothing fails Him.
"Hilm": It is deliberateness and patience. "Hilm" also means quietness, self-control, intellect, and knowledge. It is the opposite of hurry, ignorance, and foolishness.
