المعنى الاصطلاحي

A sect of the Rafidite Shiites who claim divinity of `Ali and curse Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him.

الشرح المختصر

A sect from the extremist Rafidites. They claim that `Ali ibn Abi Talib is god, who sent Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, to call people to worship him (`Ali), but he (Muhammad) claimed to be the messenger of another god. They were called "Dhammiyyah" because they defamed, cursed and insulted the Messenger of Allah Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Dhammiyyah": is derived from "dhamm", which means defamation, vilification and detraction. Here it refers to the sect known by that name, the Dhamiyyah Sect.

التعريف

Those who limit dispraise to total non-existence. They do not consider ‘refraining from something’ an action, nor opting for the contrary. Scholars called Abu Hāshim al-Jubbāʾī ‘al-dhimmī’ and those who followed him dhammiyyah.
