Expelling and driving someone away from goodness as a form of condemnation, or supplicating against them to that effect.
"La`n" (cursing) is of two types: 1. "La`n" made by Allah, which is to be expelled and distanced from goodness as a result of Allah's wrath and extreme anger (with the cursed). It is an attribute related to the actions of Allah that is established for Him in the Quran and the Sunnah. It is a consequence of committing a major sin (Kabeerah). 2. "La`n" made by the creation of Allah, which is to supplicate Allah to deprive a person from all goodness and from the mercy of Allah. This has two cases: a. general, such as saying: May Allah's curse be upon the disbelievers. b. specific, such as saying: May Allah's curse be upon so-and-so. This type of "la`n" is subject to conditions and rulings. The plural term "malaa`in" refers to the actions that incur "la`n", such as defecating in public areas or under a tree where people seek shade.
"La`n": expelling, sending away. "La`een": one who has been expelled and rejected. Other meanings: insulting and abusing verbally, torturing, destroying, transforming into a lowly creature (metamorphosing).
Removal and expulsion from God’s mercy as a form of punishment.
