The unusual hardship that a person finds in practicing a religious duty.
"Mashaqqah" (hardship): Types of hardship: 1- Usual hardship; that which is normally found in every human work. 2- Unusual hardship; this is the intended meaning of the hardship. One of the pivotal rules in Islamic Fiqh states: "With "mashaqqah" comes ease." The intended meaning of "mashaqqah" here is the matter that is extremely difficult and which represents great hardship and suffering to a person. The term "mashaqqah" does not refer to any general type of hardship that a person may experience; rather, it is a specific type regarding which Islamic law has legislated easy rulings to alleviate and remove the "mashaqqah" associated with it. Any other type of suffering and "mashaqqah" that is not subject to a certain alleviation in Islamic law is not classified as Shariah-approved "mashaqqah".
