Al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) taught me some words to say in the Witr prayer - Ibn Jawwās said: in the Qunūt supplication of the Witr prayer - : "O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, grant me safety among those whom You have granted safety, take me into Your charge among those whom You have taken into Your charge, bless for me what You have given me, and protect me from the evil You have ordained. Surely, You decree and none can decree anything against You. None whom You have taken as ally shall be humiliated, and none whom You have taken as enemy shall be honored. May You be Blessed and Exalted, our Lord." In another narration, he said at the end: "May Allah's peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad.”  
عن الحسن بن علي -رضي الله عنهما- قال: عَلَّمَنِي رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كلمات أقولهن في الوتر، -قال ابْنُ جَوَّاسٍ: في قنوت الوتر:- «اللهم اهدني فيمن هديت، وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ، وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ، وبارك لي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ، إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ، وإنه لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ، وَلَا يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ، تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ».. وفي رواية: قال في آخره: وصلى الله على النبي محمد.

شرح الحديث :


This noble Hadīth includes many precious statements that the Muslim should say when he is offering the Witr prayer. "To say in the Witr prayer", meaning: supplicate with them. "In the Qunūt supplication of the Witr prayer", meaning: Qunūt has different meanings, but the meaning intended here is the supplication in the Witr prayer in a specific position during standing. "O Allah, guide me", meaning: keep me firm upon guidance, or increase me in the causes of guidance. "Among those whom You have guided", meaning: among those whom you have guided from the prophets and the righteous, as Sulaymān said: {And admit me into Your mercy with Your righteous servants.} [Sūrat An-Naml: 19] "Grant me safety", meaning: keep evil away from me. "Take me into Your charge", meaning: take care of my affairs and rectify them. "among those whom You have taken into Your charge", meaning: their affairs and do not leave me to myself. "Take me into Your charge" here means Allah's protection and guarding the affairs of a slave that He loves. "Bless for me", meaning: increase goodness for me, i.e. for my own benefit. "What You have given me", meaning: what You have given me of life, wealth, knowledge, and deeds. "Protect me", meaning: keep me safe. "The evil You have ordained", meaning: the evil that You have decreed for me. It was said that asking for protection against what Allah has decreed of things that one dislikes refers to the apparent causes and reasons that are related to the occurrence of what is pre-ordained, and they could be changed or altered as Allah wills. "You decree", meaning: You decree and judge in everything that You will. "None can decree anything against You", meaning: no one's ruling or Judgment can affect You, none can adjust Your judgment, and there is nothing obligatory for You, except what You have made obligatory for Yourself as entailed by Your Promise. "None whom You have taken as ally shall be humiliated", meaning: alliance is the opposite of enmity. This is in opposition of the other statement: "none whom You have taken as enemy shall be honored" as mentioned in some narrations. It means that none of Your slaves whom You have taken as allies shall be humiliated in the Hereafter, or ever, even if they are tested or subjected to those who humiliate and insult them apparently, because this is the ultimate might and the highest status in the sight of Allah and the sight of His righteous servants, who are the only party whose judgment is to be considered. In fact, the severe tests that the prophets, peace be upon them, went through are quite known. The Hadīth is concluded with "may You be Blessed", meaning: may Your goodness and blessings increase in this world and the Hereafter. "And Exalted", meaning: Your greatness is sublime, and Your power and might overpower whoever exists, and You are far exalted above being similar to anything.
