Impossible (ممتنع)

العقيدة أصول الفقه

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

Something that cannot exist in the real world and can only be imagined.

الشرح المختصر :

"Mumtani‘" (impossible) is not mentioned in the Qur’an or the Sunnah; however, the verb "mana‘a" and some of its derivatives are mentioned. "Mumtani‘" refers to something that cannot logically exist in the real world because its existence entails nothingness. It cannot simply exist because its existence entails the existence of the impossible. An example of this is the existence of two creators or the existence of a partner with Allah, the Exalted. This is not possible both in logic and in Shariah. The "mumtani‘" is of two types: 1. The intrinsically "mumtani‘": like non-existing things that people of sound intellects agree upon that they cannot possibly exist in the real world. This also includes the existence of "the branch" without the existence of its "source", such as the existence of a child before the existence of his father. for it is not possible for a baby to be born before his father. 2. The extrinsically "mumtani‘": such as the things that Allah, the Exalted, has known, decreed, and informed about that they will not exist. Such things will never exist. It is argued that such things cannot exist because if they were to exist, this would be contrary to what Allah knows. Otherwise, these things could logically exist because Allah has the power to make them happen.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
