(الجّبْر)
من موسوعة المصطلحات الإسلامية
المعنى الاصطلاحي
Forcing someone to do something without his consent and will, or negating the role of man in his actions and ascribing them to God.
الشرح المختصر
The term "Jabr" (determinism) has different meanings; one of its meanings is forcing someone to do something without his consent. Another meaning is claiming that all human actions are determined by Allah; i.e. that the slave has no choice in his actions, and Exalted is Allah above compelling His creation in this sense. Indeed, Allah creates willingness and free choice for the slave in whatever he does, and this is not "jabr". It may also mean creating internal beliefs and desires, which is the established meaning in Islamic creed. "Jabr" is an ideology whose advocates hold that people are forced to do their actions without any choice, which is completely false. The slave has freedom with regards to his actions which Allah, the Exalted, created. People are the very ones who willingly do what they do, as Allah gave them the will and power, which therefore makes the action of the slave created by Allah in this sense.
