المعنى الاصطلاحي

A male offspring born through lineage/blood relationship.

الشرح المختصر

"Ibn" (son) is a male child who directly descends from another, whether by natural conception or by artificial insemination. An "ibn" has two possible cases: 1. In relation to the father: it is any male child born to a man from a valid marriage, or on the basis of a defective marriage contract, or an incident of sexual intercourse that was falsely believed to be lawful, or through "milk yameen" (what his right hand possesses, meaning a slave). 2. In relation to the mother: it is any male child a woman gives birth to, either through marriage or unlawful sexual intercourse. An "ibn" has rights as well as duties. The rights include financial maintenance, sponsorship, education, and disciplining, whereas the duties include obedience to the parents and treating them with kindness.
