Requesting to take a sum of money to be returned in the future.
"Istidaanah" (incurring debt) is the request made by someone to receive money from another and return the same amount in the future. It includes assuming financial liability of any type, such as taking a cash loan or purchasing goods, hiring the services of a person, guaranteeing damaged property, or otherwise. A person may make such a request in order to fulfill a right that is due to Allah, such as Hajj and zakah; or to fulfill a right that is due to people, such as providing for the wife and children, settling a debt and the like; or to fulfill a right related to oneself like requesting a loan out of necessity to nourish oneself and stay alive.
"Istidaanah": requesting a loan and incurring debt. "Dayn": debt.
