Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) got cupped and offered the prayer without performing (a new) ablution. He only washed the places of cupping.

شرح الحديث :

This Hadīth indicates that cupping does not nullify the ablution, regardless of the amount of blood that comes out as a result. What supports this Hadīth – even though it is weak – is that it has been authentically reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) advised his Ummah to seek treatment with cupping in many Hadīths. It has also been authentically reported in Sahīh Al-Bukhāri and Sahīh Muslim and other books of Hadīth that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) as well as the Companions received treatment with cupping; nevertheless, there exists no authentic Hadīth stating a command to perform ablution after receiving cupping. This proves that the principle is that the state of purification is maintained, and this principle does not change except with Shariah-approved evidence that indicates that the blood flowing out of the body, from a place other than the genitals or the anus, nullifies the ablution. That same ruling of cupping applies to everything that comes out of the body –except from the genitals or anus– without cupping, such as drawing out blood with needles, or blood coming out as a result of surgery, or blood drawn out to be filtered then returned to the body (dialysis) like in case of those who suffer kidney failure, etc. "He only washed the places of cupping", i.e. after undergoing cupping, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) only washed the places where he did the cupping to remove what remained of the blood traces. In brief, anything that comes out of the body, except from the genitals or anus, does not nullify the ablution, whether it is blood or otherwise, regardless of the amount, whether by way of cupping or any other way, and whether it is intentional or unintentional, based upon the principle that the original state of purification is maintained.
